e-CLOSE is an Erasmus+ project (2020-1-PL01-KA226-HE-096239) that strengthened learner-centred online and blended STEM education by increasing meaningful student–teacher interaction beyond emergency remote teaching. It provides a coherent set of outputs that support active learning across four stages of the teaching process: preparation, delivery, assessment and evaluation. Key resources include a research-informed methodology based on teacher and student surveys, a public Distance Teaching Toolbox designed to make online learning active rather than passive, and Teacher Training Courses focused on innovative student-activating methods, visual thinking and content, online assessment, badges and smart gamification. Engagement is further enhanced through Smart Gamification grounded in Multiple Intelligence Theory and a digital badging approach that enables learners to document, reflect and provide evidence of transversal competences, with badges awarded via the Open Badge Factory platform. e-CLOSE also piloted blended activities, including student workshops and the use of a virtual campus, to create interactive learning experiences. The outputs are complemented by concise guidelines and recommendations to support adoption and scaling in higher education. The initiative targets academic teachers, students and higher education institutions seeking practical, evidence-based approaches and open resources for interactive online and blended teaching.
