LifeComp: The European Framework for Personal, Social and Learning to Learn Key Competence

Description

LifeComp is a European competence framework developed by the European Commission to support the development of personal, social, and learning-to-learn competences across education and training systems. Published in 2020, it is highly relevant for work-readiness as it defines key transversal skills required for employability, including self-regulation, flexibility, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

The framework is structured into three competence areas: personal, social, and learning to learn, each subdivided into descriptors that can be used to design curricula, learning activities, and assessment strategies. LifeComp supports educators, VET providers, and policymakers in integrating soft skills into training programmes and aligning them with labour market needs. It promotes learner-centred approaches and lifelong learning, making it particularly suitable for modern VET systems. The framework can be used to design modules, micro-credentials, and innovative pedagogical approaches aimed at enhancing learners’ readiness for employment and adaptability in changing work environments.
