Structured Three-Phase Blended Learning Model in Timber Engineering – University Course “Holzkonstruktion und technischer Ausbau”

Description

The university course “Holzkonstruktion und technischer Ausbau” offered by Technical University Graz applies a structured three-phase blended learning model for professionals in timber construction.
Each module follows a consistent pedagogical architecture combining digital self-learning, collaborative on-site learning, and applied transfer.
The online phase provides theoretical foundations through sequentially released digital units including video lectures, supporting materials, interactive elements, and optional self-assessments. A discussion forum enables exchange between participants and lecturers. This phase supports flexible, self-paced knowledge acquisition and structured preparation for presence sessions.
The presence phase integrates lectures, discussions, excursions, and interdisciplinary group work. Theoretical input is consolidated through applied exercises and case-based tasks.
The transfer phase culminates in an application-oriented design or implementation project developed individually or in interdisciplinary teams.
This model demonstrates how structured blended learning can combine flexibility with competence-oriented professional upskilling while maintaining strong practical relevance in the Habitat sector.
