Microcredencial in Digital Technologies to Support Design, Implementation and Operation

Description

This micro-credential develops learner-centred competences in Digital Technologies to support design, implementation and operation through the BIM methodology (Building Information Modelling). Learning is organised around authentic industry tasks that mirror professional workflows in architecture, engineering and construction, where BIM is driving major process change and relies on robust BIM libraries and structured information exchange. Delivered in a blended-learning format combining online and face-to-face sessions, the course builds practical capability to apply core BIM concepts and terminology and to recognise the benefits and constraints of BIM adoption in relation to market maturity, regulation and current technologies.

Teaching integrates short, concept-focused inputs with active learning, using audiovisual resources and continuous questioning to foster analysis, interpretation, critical thinking and creative problem solving. Practical work emphasises interoperability and data structures, particularly the IFC format, Model View Definitions and Information Delivery Manuals, as well as modelling, analysis and visualisation workflows, clash management and parametric object and family creation. The course also addresses LOD notions, institutional and regulatory reference entities, implementation requirements, standards, recommendations and the legal framework, supporting informed decision-making for BIM implementation.

Assessment is practice-based through two applied assignments using project-based learning and problem-solving-based learning, each worth 50 per cent. By the end, participants can develop BIM objects, produce measurements and budgets, and contribute to digital and social transition in the AEC sector.
