Global Framework on Core Skills for Life and Work

Description

The Global Framework on Core Skills for Life and Work, developed by UNESCO in 2021, provides a comprehensive model for defining and developing work-readiness skills across education and training systems, including VET. The framework identifies a set of core transferable skills essential for employability, such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability, and digital literacy. It also emphasises values and attitudes, including responsibility, resilience, and ethical behaviour in professional contexts.

The framework is designed to support curriculum development, training design, and policy-making, offering guidance on how to integrate these competences into formal and non-formal learning environments. It promotes inclusive and lifelong learning approaches and is particularly relevant for preparing learners for rapidly changing labour markets. The framework is widely used internationally and supports alignment between education systems and employer expectations. It is a key reference for designing programmes aimed at improving employability and facilitating school-to-work transitions.
