überholz is a postgraduate university programme in timber construction. The programme brings together professionals from architecture, engineering, craft, and related disciplines in a two-year, part-time format.
Its innovation lies primarily in its pedagogical design. The curriculum is structured around studio-based, project-driven learning rather than traditional lecture formats. Participants work on real-life design and construction challenges, integrating technical, structural, ecological, and aesthetic aspects of timber construction. Interdisciplinary collaboration is a core element of the learning process.
The programme combines academic reflection with applied industry knowledge and emphasises problem-solving, systems thinking, and collaborative practice. It reflects current developments in sustainable building, resource-efficient construction, and advanced timber engineering.
As a model, überholz demonstrates how continuing vocational education can foster cross-sectoral competences and bridge disciplinary silos in the Habitat sector. It represents an innovative methodological approach to professional upskilling in timber construction, particularly relevant for green transition and integrated design processes.
